About Rotary

Rotary International is a worldwide organisation of men and women who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities at home and overseas. Its more than 1.2 million members aim to further the Rotary motto, Service Above Self.

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI), with its own governing body and constitution, is a territorial administrative unit of Rotary International, serving more than 57,000 Rotarians in approximately 1845 clubs grouped into 29 districts.

Rotary is essentially a grassroots organisation, with most of its meaningful work being carried out at club level. A district, national and international structure is designed to support the clubs and help them provide quality service on a wider basis.

Clubs meet on a regular basis, which allows members to build firm friendships. Every Rotarian has the right to attend any club meeting anywhere in the world, so you will always be made very welcome, wherever business or leisure travel may take you.

Enjoy Rotary!

Have Fun!

The Four Avenues of Service are based on the Objects of Rotary and form the cornerstone and the foundation on which all club activity is based:

Club Service ensures the effective functioning of the club whilst strengthening fellowship and developing acquaintanceships as an opportunity for service.

Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocational experience and practice high ethical standards throughout their business and professional lives.

Community Service encompasses the service projects and activities Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in communities where they live and work.

International Service strives to expand Rotary's humanitarian work around the world as a means of advancing better international understanding, peace and goodwill through a world fellowship of business and professional people.

The Rotary Foundation is the charitable trust fund of Rotary International. Its purpose is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. It supports a variety of initiatives, including:

PolioPlus, which supports Rotary's dream of a polio-free world, and was set up in 1985. With only a few countries left where polio is endemic, the ambition is near to realisation.

Ambassadorial Scholarships, which is the world's largest, privately funded international scholarships programme for postgraduate university level studies, aimed at promoting international understanding by bringing together people from different countries and cultures.

Rotary World Peace Fellowships, which are awarded to individuals for study in master's degree programmes at the Rotary Centres for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution.
